Hey Everyone,
As usual, thank you so much for the support for this project. The launch of the $15 filament went well. We hit our targets in order to maintain that pricing going forward.
But now that we have that, we need to circle around and do some cleanup.
Part of that is canceling subscriptions. What! A company canceling a subscription voluntarily? Yep. They don't work anymore.
The reason for the subscriptions was to let folks who were behind the project show their support over the long term. And they have certainly helped.
But there is a problem. The subscription software (wix subscriptions in fact) does not allow us to update pricing on a subscription after it is created. That means that we cannot reduce the price of the subscription to match the purchase price that we have now achieved.
Now certainly subscribers had a few other perks. Reliable supply. Front of the line inventory. And of course the convenience of not having to re-order every month if they use a bunch of filament.
But the only way to update the subscription is to cancel it and allow you to sign back up at the new pricing. That is a rotten customer experience. And not everyone reads their emails. And we don't want to achieve this by mooching off forgotten subscriptions.
So to be sure that everyone can take advantage of the new pricing, even with the inconvenience of having to order when you need it, we have canceled all active subscriptions. That last of them will all be fulfilled of course.
Thanks again for the support guys. We are working on a membership option that is a better setup and gives some other cool perks. The ability to project how much material is needed each month is a big deal to reducing the cost of filament. But we want to make sure we are taking care of you. It would be wrong to let a subscription hang at a higher price and require you to get it updated.
Sorry for any trouble. We have hit every branch on the stupid tree on the way down on this project. But the good news is that by the bottom we should be pretty smart.
Production is scaling, the quality is as good as any other filament. So now we are just affordable material, not just "cheap" material.
Now on to the next thing. We gotta drop the cost of these another $5 to hit the $10/kg
First purchase of Tangled filament and I am very happy with it. No fuss, easy to print with generic PLA setting in Prusa Slicer on an MK3S+
Way to go on the filament pricing progress! Your filament is a richer black than other USA filaments I've tried and, of course, Tangled costs less. Time to order some more!
Also, Wix is the website equivalent of using a consumer 3D printer for a print farm. Let me know if you want to trade website design for filament.
As the primary reason was a subscription to good filament this is a sad day. Looking forward to a new subscription model when it comes. Until then i'll be saving money for something reliable to come my way
As a (now former) subscriber I appreciate you doing the right thing. Perhaps you can create a “Repunzel Club” with perks for Tangled hipsters that supported you before it was cool.
It might be an inconvenience, but definitely the right thing to do for your customers. This is how you keep 'em, thank you!
